Domaine Sylvain Pataille

Sylvain Pataille is widely regarded as the most important and celebrated producer in Marsannay, a consulting oenologist who founded his domaine in 1999 with a single hectare and has grown it to 15 hectares of certified organic and biodynamically farmed vines at the northern tip of the Côte de Nuits. He is equally acclaimed for his Pinot Noir reds and his championship of the Aligoté grape, producing wines praised by William Kelley of Wine Advocate as 'among the Côte d'Or's finest values.'

Tasting Profile

Fleshy and charming with aromas of raspberries, plums, and rose petals, the wine is medium to full-bodied, textural and seamless, with lively acids and a saline finish. Decanter notes pomegranate and raspberry fruit expression, a spicy depth to the nose, and a tannic, fresh texture with a lingering finish.

Region

Marsannay is the northernmost village appellation of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, uniquely permitted to produce red, white, and rosé wines at village AOC level — it is the only Burgundy village appellation authorised to produce rosé. The AOC was created in 1987 and, while it has no Premier Cru or Grand Cru vineyards, producers like Sylvain Pataille have elevated its reputation to rival higher-ranked appellations.
